“The End” is Just the Beginning (by Jericha Kingston)

file0001382912447I love sunsets. I enjoy a sunset most when I’m on vacation (which isn’t nearly often enough).

But sunsets are under-appreciated. Don’t believe me? Drive west as the sun dips into the horizon. We don shades and lower the sun visor. After a hectic day, we wish the sun would hurry and set.

Genesis 1:5 says, “And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” So a sunset is the beginning of a day, not the ending. Oh, the implications! Foremost, when mortal life is over, eternal life begins.

This verse can transform anyone, but it’s especially illuminating for writers. Consider:

God’s Timing is Perfect. Writers don’t labor in vain. A manuscript rejection provides an opportunity to learn from mistakes. If we persevere, our writing will be strengthened.

Everyone Experiences Night. After 50 rejections, I reevaluated my call to write. Through prayer, I received confirmation to continue. Been rejected? You’re not alone, and your writing is important. If you haven’t been reminder of that lately, I’m telling you now.

Sunrise Follows Sunset. During my period of rejection, I could have easily indulged in a pity-party. Instead, I redeemed the time by writing letters to my great-grandchildren. Those letters mean more to me than anything I’ve ever submitted to a publisher.

I’ve always viewed sunsets with an end-of-day mentality. Now that I view them with the mind of Christ, I understand that The End is really the beginning of something good.

Have sunsets taught you anything? I’d love to hear about it. ~ JK

jericha_blue_300Author Bio:

Jericha Kingston–tomboy gone rogue–loves the visual, performing, and literary arts. She’s the winner of the 2013 Touched by Love Award contest (Short Contemporary), the 2nd place winner in the 2013 Laurie contest (Inspirational), and a Finalist in the 2012 and 2013 ACFW First Impressions contest (Historical and Romance). Her novella, Waiting for Lily Bloom, released April 2014 from Pelican Book Group.

A Georgia native, Jericha is comfortable in the solitude of the woods, or singing and acting before audiences. Her heart was stolen at age 16, and it’s never been returned. She and her husband have been married for a quarter of a century, and they have two grown sons. Ousting her inner tomboy has been futile, so Jericha is often found fishing, camping, or hiking with her Australian Cattle Dog.
